Dalla Biblioteca: Having lost, through no fault of my own (due to a cruel and capricious eviction--after eight blameless years!), Internet connection da me, more than a month ago, and likely not to have it again in my new apartment, for at least another month--and only just today determined, with grim Spartan fortitude (such as, to myself at least, I sometimes stoically, with a game little twisted smile, exhibit)--
What then remains but well our Power (presumably, Grace and Beauty) to use,
And keep Good Humour still, whate'ever else we lose?
N'est-ce pas? I've already panicked and asked my only rich old friend to send a couple of his many thousand dollars--but in such a way that he can, and may, if he wants to, just blow me off. And so, hopeless, and not expecting help, I've just today thought out how I can do what needs to be done:
I will, sometime in the next couple of days, approach one of those knowledgeable, professional, masterly young Computer Geeks, such as advertise themselves in student newspapers, and explain to him as much as I know of my computer's actual and theoretical failings, and ask him please to arrange and be present at a connection between it and Oceanic Time Warner, or a re-connection with Hawaiiantel.com (I care not which), giving him therewith $150 for himself, and giving him to install whatever components and parts he will have determined my sweet and smoothly running PC will then and thereafter need.
But for right now, I'm at the library, and I've checked out two big bagfulls of all such books as I need to learn Sanskrit, Classical and Modern Greek, Spanish, Conversational Italian and Latin, to get me through the long, dark smutless days ahead.
