Maundy Thursday Indeed

Something--I'm a pretty fair amateur etymologist--told me that Maundy, as in Maunday Thursday, which is, by the look of it, an Old English word (from before 1500, C.E.), and which is, or was then, so to say, French-also, is derived from a French, not a Latin, antecedent: Mendier, one might hypothectate; never, for god's fucking sake, MandareEww.

And lo, my inner etymologic sense, has detected another Deliberate or (worse) Inadvertent Fraud on the part of Conservative Pedantry.  Yea for me.
