So Sometimes My Snotty/Douchey Habit of Judging Movies by their Titles Fizzles Badly....

Case in point being this fabulous movie which I just saw for the first time last night on Netflix (twenty years after it was released). I actually thought it would be about something for which rummaging through Good Will stores might be an arch, hyper-cool metaphor--like, say, Life.  Ouch.

Coupla things I gotta say about this movie:  (1) Robin Williams is (if he's still alive) proof that great comedic genius and profound tragic genius are two sides of the same coin.  (2) Matt Damon's incredible sensitivity and depth of perception as an actor are apparently what make him so acutely aware and highly principled a political commentator.

Now I'm making it a project to see all the movies of Gus Van Sant.
